During the preschool hour....my neighbor was kind enough to go back to the scene of the accident w/ me today so I could take some pictures of where Luke fell. It's hard to see the steepness w/ the leaves and stuff... anyways the first picture shows the edge of the trail... you can see as soon as he hit the grass it's an instant hill.
this picture shows the creek at the bottom of the hill... We were lucky that we were not further up the path b/c the creek was closer to the edge of the hill there and he would have got wet for sure.
I climbed back down and took this from the bottom where he landed looking up. There is a slight "darker" trail if you look in the leaves where the dirt was turned over from me climbing back up. I climbed up today w/ no kid in my arms and it was still hard. I also discovered there WERE prickers here.. he must have missed them!
I'm going to make a phone call to the park b/c I don't think it's safe to have such a bad drop off right by the bike path w/ no rail. There is a long area that is unsafe and we won't be going anytime soon! I' sure they won't want to spend the money to fix it.. but it can't hurt to try. Another child might not be as lucky as Luke was. :( -Beth
This afternoon Luke had his friend Jadon over to play for a bit. Just as they were leaving the kids were all sitting on the front porch while we were talking and Luke says "Hey take our picture!" I thought this turned out cute..Jadon is a big Lego fan like Luke, so the two enjoy buildling things together. One of the neat things about having a friend over is they learn new ways of playing from each other. Jadon has different ideas than Luke. Luke will resist trying something w/ Legos that I suggest, but if it's his friends idea he's all about it!
After naptime Luke and I worked on his homework. He was supposed to decorate the letter "H" w/ all sorts of words that start w/ the letter "H". When I picked him up from school the teachers said he was so proud that it was his turn to decorate the letter of the week. Someone else got the lowercase "h". Of course he had to put "Hannah" on his big letter "H" somewhere! :)

Wow, that IS steep!! God was with you all, despite being freaked out by it! Don't let Luke (or yourself) become afraid of biking again- the chances of that happening again are very, very low. And at least you had them wearing helmets- Sadly, that is something I have never insisted on. Not even when my Luke had a brain tumor- go figure! I guess I'm "old school"= since we didn't use them growing up, I don't see the pressing need now. I know I am not right on that issue, but I am lazy enough not to do anything about it. Yes, the kids have helmets but we just don't use them :-( Sigh...
